Presented by DITA BHARGAVA, Democratic Candidate for CT Treasurer

Strategies for Positive Growth to Move CT Forward

The State Treasurer plays a key role in Connecticut’s future.  The office oversees investments in infrastructure and public works projects and also the state pension funds. By prioritizing investments in Connecticut’s future, the State Treasurer can ensure Connecticut achieves the right balance of long-term financial security, high-quality jobs and secure retirements.

Dita’s Position: State investments should help strengthen Connecticut, our economy and support all Connecticut residents, working families and businesses...

MAKING PENSIONS SUSTAINABLE FOR TEACHERS AND STATE WORKERS

  • Contribute the proceeds of undervalued or underutilized state assets to Teachers Retirement System (TRS);

  • Require the state to use at least 50% of all one-shot revenues to pay down the pension debt;

  • Extend the date by which TRS reaches full funding to 2045 instead of 2032. To do this, we must redeem or refinance the State’s pension obligation bonds in 2025, but this will alleviate some of the pressure on the budget while we work to bring the TRS up to a healthy funding level
