PRIORITY: EMPOWER MIDDLE-CLASS AND WORKING FAMILIES

Empower Working and Middle-Class Families

A vibrant middle class is essential to the future of Connecticut. To support our working families, we need to attract companies that can create good-paying jobs, ensure that our public education system is high quality and fully-funded, and find ways to reduce the costs of college and healthcare.

  • Establish paid family leave and move toward Universal Pre-K

  • Encourage good “corporate citizenship” by attracting companies to Connecticut that support paid family leave and equal pay, strive for greater workforce diversity, and respect the environment

  • Create a five-year student loan forgiveness plan for college graduates who remain in-state after graduation

  • Raise and equalize educational standards across public schools in CT

  • Support and expand vocational tech in public schools and high-tech training in Community Colleges

  • Raise the minimum wage

  • Address the opioid crisis with better prevention, treatment and recovery

  • Stabilize and reduce the costs of insurance on the AccessHealthCT exchange, consider adding a public option if private insurance remains too costly, and support federal efforts to allow people to buy into Medicare at age 50

  • Respect the collective bargaining process and the rights of workers to organize

  • Improve disability services
