Dita Bhargava, vying for CT treasurer, pushes back as Hulu rejects her ad on abortion


TV ad released last week by Dita Bhargava, candidate for state treasurer, has raised eyebrows for her bold vow to use the state’s pension investments to prod corporations to make sure their employees have access to abortions — and for its stark look, showing dozens of bare-shouldered women, Bhargava included.


Now the 30-second ad has sparked a controversy as Hulu, the giant streaming service, declined to run it, citing a policy against political ads over abortion, the Bhargava campaign said late Tuesday.

That doesn’t sit well with Bhargava. She views corporate activism on abortion and other issues — including opiate addiction, since she lost a son to an overdose four years ago — as a personal mission, and as an important role of the state treasurer.
